April 9, 2010 – Seven Weeks on the Road and Still Loving It

Happy 4th Birthday, Jake.

After the past several days of sightseeing at Lake Powell, Zion and Bryce, our brains were on overload from all that we’d seen … it’s been like drinking from a visual fire hose … we were exhausted.  This was exacerbated by our carbon-monoxide detector above our bed going off at 3:30AM this morning; fortunately only an easily replaced battery issue.  Still, we had trouble getting back to sleep afterward.

We’d planned to take scenic Route 12 to Torry.  It was advertised as having great views and some very narrow roads without guardrails and steep drop-offs on either side.  While we’ve been on some similar roads, we opted for a longer route, with its own views.  In retrospect, the decision was a good one as crosswinds piped up during the time we’d have been most exposed.

We also love the signs all over the West.

And, from time to time, we find ourselves behind some local vehicles.

We arrived at our campground early and crashed this afternoon.
