We awoke to a cool predawn sky with the moon still high in the sky.
Driving across west Texas can become pretty boring unless you take the time to observe the exceptions to the muted green and brown and arid landscape.
There are the very occasional hay fields, the remains of this year’s cotton crop and other food farms,
distant freight trains,
planes which have obviously outlived their usefulness,
yet another boat out of its environment,
colorful exposed rock formations,
The only “real” city we saw was El Paso where, in some places, the Mexican border was less than a quarter mile away.
And all the while that the jolly old elf is still shadowing us!
