April 1, 2010 – By the Time We Got to Phoenix

With a weather forecast of rain and 40-50 MPH winds, we rose earl and were on the road just after 8AM.  Fortunately, however, the rain never materialized and cloudy skies became increasingly sunny with temperatures rising into the 60s … and the cross winds (which can make driving a motor home challenging) turned out to be only light and intermittent.

Driving across an Apache reservation was depressing, leaving us with the feeling we were visiting a third world nation.

Globe was notable for its huge copper and gold mining operations, after which we had yet another long climb and steep descent into the flat valley in which Apache Junction and phoenix are located.

Debbie’s brother Dave stopped by soon after we arrived and the three of us went out for some great Mexican food.
