October 12, 2012 – A Washout!

We were up a 4:30 AM today to catch a bus to the Fiesta grounds for the Dawn Patrol (a predawn launch of a dozen or so balloons which then use their propane burners to light up their balloons as they rise into the cool morning air).

Unfortunately, the winds were too strong for a launch and then a cold front rolled through Albuquerque and with it a torrential downpour, thunder and lightning storm (can’t think of any sane individual who would take off in a balloon with propane tanks aboard into an atmosphere being riddled by lightning bolts)!

The remainder of the day had surface winds up to 45 MPH(our rigs were shaking at times)and periodic downpours kept us mostly indoors and the balloons grounded.
