October 7, 2012 – Roswell, NM

 

Today was a scheduled down-day where we had no driving nor events scheduled!

Debbie and I made a run to Wal-Mart and then stopped for a few local photo-ops.

 

The Gross Military Institute’s Building (1891-1894) … the forerunner of the

Chaves County Courthouse (built 1911) – one of the best surviving courthouses built in the Beaux Arts Revival “monument civic style” architecture

John Simpson Chisom (1924-1884) – “Cattle King of the Pecos”

Robert Goddard statue at the Roswell Museum and Art Center

Robert Goddard and the Tower he used to launch his liquid propellant rockets from 1930-1942

The Hippie Chick Boutique

Finally, and not surprising, there are signs all over town sporting “aliens”

 

Tonight, the six couples who’ve been traveling together from Branson plus another couple we met today who had traveled to Alaska this summer with the same company we were with last year went to dinner at Red Lobster.

Tomorrow, we’re off to Albuquerque!
